EPTRI (European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure)

EPTRI is a new European Research Infrastructure (RI) proposed to accelerate and expand the paediatric drug discovery and development processes by focusing on basic and preclinical researchmethods and taking into account the continuous ontogeny induced variability in drug disposition, disease targets and diseases biomarkers; the natural condition of the child growth requiring size adaptation of medicine forms and tests (small volumes, microtracing, microdosing, etc.); the advancement in life science, technologies and data science to be implemented in the paediatric setting.
EPTRI will be organized as a Distributed RI able to cover some critical gaps in the paediatric research.
Company
Consorzio per Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche (CVBF)

Consorzio per Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche (CVBF) is a not-for-profit organisation, founded in 2000 with the mission to perform research and education in pharmaceutical field integrating regulatory, clinical, epidemiological, economical, methodological and statistical expertise. CVBF developed significant expertise as Coordinator of several international projects and participates as Partner in many research projects funded by the European Commission with the aim to harness efficiency and delivery of research activities and services strengthening collaboration within the scientific community. Development and implementation of research models integrating different technology-driven scientific aspects is the main aim of CVBF actions. CVBF is Coordinator of EPTRI, the European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure aimed to accelerate and expand the paediatric drug discovery and development processes.

State of development
Concept
Industrial application
Industries, SMEs, Sponsors and CRO, can benefit from the enhancement of the translation of novel technologies in drug development in their drug developmental plan; the creation of public/private collaboration and the use the services of the RI. EPTRI will positively impact on the private sector leading to the inclusion of paediatrics in the portfolio of pharmaceutics companies and promoting the long-term creation of public-private partnership for the development of new projects in paediatrics.
Advantage factor
EPTRI will coordinate and foster cooperative efforts integrating existing expertise in paediatric research to reduce fragmentation of paediatric landscape through harmonisation of procedures and promotion of scientific excellence. The innovation is linked to the implementation of Key Enabling Technologies for drug development that have been poorly applied to paediatrics. EPTRI is a 'one -stop-shop' for advice in paediatric research offered through the thematic research platforms.
